LLM grad honoured as 2011’s “Senior Australian”
University of Sydney Professor Ron McCallum, LLM ‘74, received the 2011 Senior Australian of the Year award from the country’s Prime Minister on January 25. With the honour, the equal rights campaigner has a new platform for spreading his message of equality for people with a disability. Read more…

Ribbon cut on Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP Classroom
Students, faculty, staff and alumni gathered in Macdonald Hall on January 12 for a ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP Classroom. To recognize FMC’s $400,000 gift made to the Classroom Renewal Project, Queen’s Law named the school’s largest classroom in honour of the firm. Read more…
Unveiling set for Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP Classroom
Queen’s Law has named Macdonald Hall’s new second-floor seminar room in honour of Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP to recognize the firm’s $200,000 gift, the first major donation that was made to the $1.3-million Classroom Renewal Project. The contemporary, high-tech teaching space featuring video conferencing technology will be launched on March 16.
Justice David Stratas and distinguished guests teach critical legal skills
Award-winning teacher Justice David Stratas, Law ‘84, of the Federal Court of Appeal, designed a new course for Queen’s Law: Legal Writing and Written Advocacy. He taught the course in January with the assistance of special guests, including SCC Justice Thomas Cromwell, Law ‘76, and Rob Frater, Law ‘84, Senior General Counsel with the Department of Justice Canada. During a trip to New York on January 27, 55 Queen’s Law students enjoyed the unique opportunity to learn first-hand about private and public law practice options in NYC and other large cities internationally. Student interns at UNICEF in Malawi
Joshua Blum, Law ‘11, spent last summer helping to transform the legal system for children in Africa. With assistance from the Dean’s Excellence Fund, he completed an eight-week UNICEF internship in Malawi, a small southern African country of some 14 million people. Read more…
Law ‘12 intern shares in grassroots legal education for Vietnamese
Abbey Sinclair, Law ‘12, spent the summer of 2010 in Hanoi, Vietnam, helping to promote legal awareness and access to justice for the country’s citizens. With assistance from a Torys Public Summer Internship Award, she interned with a partner organization of Bridges Across Borders Southeast Asia’s Community Legal Education Initiative. Read more…
