Dr. J. A. Corry Lecture

This lecture series was established by the late Dr. J. A. Corry, distinguished political scientist and former principal of Queen's University. The theme of the series is "some aspect of the relation of law and politics, taken either in general and philosophic terms or some lively current Canadian issue." The lecturer is invited to deliver two or more lectures and to meet with interested staff and students of a period of a few days.

Willis Cunningham Memorial Lecture

An annual lecture to honour the memory of the late Willis G. Cunningham who had a long association with Queen's University and who for many years was a S pecial Lecturer in Landlord and Tenant Law in the Faculty of Law. The Lecture has been made possible by the establishment of a fund which has been created by gifts from many colleagues and friends. It is used to bring to Kingston persons with outstanding backgrounds, particularly in the medical-legal field, for the purpose of stimulating dialogue among practising lawyers and doctors, the Faculties of Law and Medicine at Queen's University and the general public.

Catriona Gibson Memorial Lecture

This lectureship was established in 1972 by Drs. W. M. Gibson and J. B. Gibson of Okotoks, Alberta in memory of their daughter, Catriona Gibson, B.A. (Alberta), LL.B. (Queen's), a young lawyer of great promise, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1969. It provides for a lecture to be delivered annually at the Faculty of Law by a distinguished scholar on a subject related to law and a current social problem.

Stuart and Gretchen Ryan Visitorship

The Stuart and Gretchen Ryan Visitorship has been established to honour the contributions to the Faculty of Law made by the Prof. H.R.S. Ryan and his wife Gretchen. Professor Ryan was one of the original three professors when the Faculty opened its doors in 1957. He practiced law in Port Hope beginning in the 1930s and served in the S econd World War. Throughout his academic career at Queen's, he was a beloved and much respected tea cher who devoted enormous time and energy to the study of criminal law. He has been a life-long advocate for the need to respect the civil rights of incarcerated persons and has been a role model for many criminal lawyers.

The Ryan Visitorship has been established to enable the Faculty of Law to invite a practitioner, jurist or academic who has made a substantial contribution to the field of criminal law. In recognition of the breadth of Professor Ryan's career, the "field of criminal law" is broadly defined to include both theory and practise, and the areas of sentencing, corrections and the intersection of criminal law and mental disorder issues.

Principal's International Visitors' Fund

The Queen's University Principal's International Visitors' Program provides funds to enrich the interenational dimensions of the University, both with the classroom and within the larger Queen's research environment. Funds are intended to assist in bringing outstanding scholars to Queen's from outside of Canada. Visitors supported by the Fund spend approximately a week on campus, contribute to undergraduate teaching and interact with graduate students and faculty.
