*Queen's University was founded in 1841 and is one of Canada's oldest and most respected universities. It is located in the historic city of Kingston on Lake Ontario, within a few hours by train or car from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

* The Queen's Graduate Program in Law is a small, academically-oriented program with a global emphasis designed for students interested in teaching, research, or legal/policy work in government, international organizations, or private practice. The law school admits about 150 students per year into its three-year undergraduate Juris Doctor(J.D.) program, and about 10 to 15 graduate students per year into its LL.M. and Ph.D. programs.

* The Law Faculty at Queen's consists of leading legal scholars whose work has been influential nationally and internationally and who take seriously the responsibility of mentoring graduate students. The law school is known for its intellectually challenging environment and also its friendliness.

* LL.M. students may spend an eight-week term in England in the Global Law Program at the Queen's International Study Centre located at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex.

* Ph.D. students work with established scholars to produce innovative work in law and while studying at Queen's they may be able to teach courses in the J.D. program or work as research assistants for faculty members engaged in funded-research projects.

* What have our Graduates done? Graduates of the program include:
  • professors in the following Canadian university law faculties: Victoria, U.B.C., Calgary, Manitoba, Queen's, Ottawa, Toronto, Osgoode Hall, Windsor, Western Ontario, Montreal, and Dalhousie, as well as professors at Carleton (in the human rights program) and Simon Fraser (in the criminology department)
  • professors at universities outside of Canada, including the former Dean of Law at the University of Sydney in Australia, the University Lecturer in Family Law at Oxford University, and the Associate Dean of Law at the University of Dar es salaam in Tanzania
  • the present Judge Advocate General of Canada
  • judges on the High Court and Court of Appeal of New Zealand and the High Court of Zambia
  • lawyers working for governments and international organizations - e.g., the International Labour Organization, the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Tanzania, the Attorney General in Uganda, and the USAID Rule of Law Project in Albania
  • lawyers in private practice both in and outside Canada
