Students, faculty and guests witnessed the unveiling of the newest addition to Queen's Law on September 24, 2008.

Room 100 has been modernized thanks to a $100,000 donation from the firm Ogilvy Renault LLP. The money also contributed to the Dean's Excellence Fund which supports the educational endeavours of students including second-year summer internships and attending conferences.

"With a gift of this magnitude, Ogilvy has joined Canada's major law firms in supporting the education of future lawyers," said Dean Bill Flanagan while he thanked representatives from the firm. "We're very grateful."

The room has been equipped with new desks and tables. Most importantly, the classroom is now wired to provide power for laptops and has a multimedia centre complete with a state-of-the-art projector and screen for presentations.

Grant Jameson, a senior partner with the firm, said "The donation of $100,000 from Ogilvy Renault to the Faculty at Queen's is a demonstration of Ogilvy Renault's commitment to legal education.

"Our gift was to refurbish the classroom and bring it up to contemporary standards."

Jameson added,"We're very fortunate to have a number of Queen's Law grads in our firm. They all speak so highly of Queen's Law and the experience they've had here."

Flanagan said at least 15 Queen's graduates are currently working at Ogilvy Renault LLP, "one of Canada's leading law firms."

After the ceremony, the crowd cut into a celebratory cake and toured the refurbished classroom. Reviews were positive.

Corrine Taliunas, Law '10, said, "They have turned it into a room fully capable to handle all the needs of our student body."

"It's quite the improvement," said Associate Dean (Academic) Stan Corbett who has used the old classroom for a variety of purposes in the past including helping students prepare for moots. "The difference between night and day."
