Advocacy

Queen’s Law traditionally has considered the art of oral advocacy to be an important element of a legal education. First-year students complete an oral advocacy exercise and may participate in the Fasken Martineau International Law Moot. In fulfilling the Advocacy Requirement, upper-year students develop research and advocacy skills through instruction in writing court briefs and orally presenting legal arguments.

All upper-year students are eligible to try out for positions on competitive moot teams and the chance to represent Queen’s in prestigious competitions with other law schools. Queen’s participates regularly in several national and international competitive moots. Competitive mooters not only gain valuable courtroom experience, they often travel across the country and meet leading Canadian lawyers and judges.
