Queen’s Legal Aid provides valuable legal assistance to clients in the Kingston area, many of whom are seriously disadvantaged. Clinic students assist with criminal charges, contract, tort, tenancy or social assistance problems. Clinic work can be done on a volunteer basis, or for academic credit through enrolment in Clinical Litigation Practice. Experienced lawyers and teachers, Susan Charlesworth and Jana Mills closely supervise all work. Clinic students are taught professional responsibility and practice management, and are trained in interviewing and counselling, legal research and written and oral advocacy. Queen’s Legal Aid students represent clients in Criminal and Small Claims Courts and before various administrative tribunals.
