Alumni: How You Can Help with Career Services Programs

The Career Services Office at Queen's Law coordinates several programs that bring students and alumni together. We hope that you will consider participating in one or more of the more programs listed below. Please let us know if you would be willing to volunteer or would be interested in receiving more information about any of our initiatives. We are very grateful for your support, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Alumni Practice Interview Program

You will be matched with a student for a one-time-only meeting, at which you will conduct a mock interview and provide feedback about the student's interview skills and strategies. The interview takes place at your office at a time convenient for you. You may agree to conduct between 1 and 4 practice interviews per year.

Alumni Articling Mentors

You will be matched with a third-year student who is seeking articles in your geographical area or type of practice. The time commitment required for each student will vary, and the nature and frequency of the contact will be up to you and the student. It is hoped that there will be at least one meeting, but much of the contact could be by email or telephone. You will work with the student to develop job search skills and strategies, help the student refine his or her cover letters and resume, and provide moral support and encouragement.

Shadow Program

This program provides students in first and second year with the opportunity to ‘shadow' you in your work for a day. Students are matched with participating volunteers according to their interests. Our current list of volunteers includes judges, in-house counsel, lawyers in the public service, and practitioners in all fields of law. This program aims to have students experience a ‘day in the life' of a legal professional and to provide students with a better appreciation of the practical application of their legal education.

Hiring a Student

If you or your employer are considering hiring a student part-time, for the summer, or for an articling position, please let us know!
