Listservs provide a means of paperless communication here at Queen's Faculty of Law between faculty, staff and students.
Open to faculty, sessional instructors, staff AND STUDENTS, this listserv is to be used for announcements PERTAINING TO THE FACULTY OF LAW'S ACADEMIC COURSES AND PROGRAMS -- announcements about guest lectures, visitors, appointments candidates, FYRP sessions, Career Services announcements, LSS general meetings, LSS elections, and other messages of a similar nature. In other words, QLAW-ALL-L will become the official announcement listserv. Most messages to QLAW-LAW-L, though not all, will come from faculty and administrators . No attachments are permitted.
|
For class announcements, please use the class listservs (described below). Class announcements should not appear on QLAW5, except perhaps in the first few days of term while the class listservs are being set up. |
Open to faculty, staff and students, this listserv is to be used for announcements that do not qualify for QLAW-ALL-L, including those of a NON-ACADEMIC NATURE.These messages may include announcements about intramural sports events, social events, "classifieds" for books and apartments, rides to Toronto, respectful discussions about current issues or events, "looking for Bob" messages, and so on. All communication on this listserv is to be consistent with the goal of fostering an inclusive and supportive working/learning environment for the Queen's Law community. No attachments are permitted.
Class listservs are set up for EACH course taught . Only subscribers to the class listserv (the instructor, the faculty support staff member assigned to the instructor, and the students enrolled in the course) can send and receive email generated on a class listserv. This is an excellent communication tool for encouraging questions on course materials, discussing a current point of law, notifying students of class scheduling changes, providing a course reading, etc. Attachments are permitted.
Every effort is made to get the class listservs up and operational as soon as possible. However, the upper year course add/drop period at the beginning of each term can create a delay of a couple of weeks at the beginning of each term. Instructions on how to use the listserv(s) are also provided.
INCOMING FIRST YEAR Students are automatically subscribed to their class listservs during the first week of classes.
UPPER YEAR Students are automatically subscribed to their class listservs at the end of the course add/drop period.
Open to faculty administrators and students enrolled in a particular year of study to facilitate communication of information of particular interest to that group of students (i.e., Law13-L for the First Year Resource Program, Law11-L for information on graduation in May 2011, etc.).
IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR ALL LISTSERVSOn ALL messages on ALL listservs, but especially on QLAW-STUDENTS-L, please USE THE SUBJECT LINE to tell everybody what the message is about, so that those who are not interested may delete the message without reading it. Listserv users should be able to avoid reading what they do not wish to read. The subject line should serve as notice of what the message is about so as to enable readers to make that decision. |
