Aboriginal Law Students' Association
alsa.queenslaw@gmail.com (Danielle Fostey)

ALSA focuses on promoting awareness and exposure to the First Nations context within Queen's Law. We encourage all students to become involved in supporting and participating in First Nations issues through academic sessions on Aboriginal law, guest speaker series, and trips to local communities. Our past events have involved information sessions at the Four Directions Aboriginal Student Centre, experiences with youth justice and alternative dispute resolution, and invitations to cultural events at local reserves. We also host lunch & learn seminars where we discuss issues such as women's rights, federalism, Supreme Court decisions and political frameworks. This year our events include a lunch & learn seminar, a trip to the Gladue Court in Toronto, a professors' debate on First Nations issues, as well as an information event at Tyendinaga. ALSA hosts by-weekly meetings that are open to all Queen's students. We offer executive and general membership registration throughout the year. We encourage you to email the ALSA executive, or attend on of our meetings or events. Everyone is welcome.

BC Law Students' Association
allan.mcgavin@queensu.ca (Allan McGavin)

The BC Law Students' Association (BCLSA) is a club with both social and career-related goals. As a student studying out East who hopes to work in BC, it's important to get to know those of your fellow students who will become your future colleagues. Past events include a Canucks game, an Olympics party, and a bbq. As well, information about working in Vancouver can be harder to come by, so this club strives to help its members stay informed through info sessions, an alumni network, and firm tours.

Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights (CLAIHR)
nicole.walton@queensu.ca

Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights (CLAIHR) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, established to promote human rights globally through legal education, advocacy and law reform. At the national level CLAIHR analyzes laws, institutions and practices affecting human rights; contributes to developing and strengthening laws and institutions that protect human rights; promotes awareness of human rights issues within the legal community; and supports lawyers, legal organizations and others dedicated to achieving human rights. At Queen's, our major event is a documentary film festival for which we select films from around the world that represent a human rights issue we deel strongly about. We also invite guest speakers to discussion panels after the films. Speakers include scholars, human rights advocates, experts in particular human rights issues, or sometimes the director of the individual featured in a film. CLAIHR members review the firms, research issues, and contact potential guest speakers. We are always open to suggestions for films and issues on which to focus. There are many ways you can become involved with CLAIHR, whether taking an active role organizing the film festival, or helping to make grilled cheese sandwiches.

Corporate Law and Investment Club
jovanovic6@gmail.com (Alex Jovanovic)

The Corporate Law and Investment Club is for students interested in the fast-paced and exciting world of corporate law. The club introduces students to the possibility of working in the field of corporate law and provides an early glance at what such a career would entail. This club connects students with lawyers working in corporate law and provides opportunities for students to learn and have dialogue with these practitioners. The club offers first year students a firm tour of several major Bay Street law firms. This is one of the only chances for students to visit and tour law firms in their first year and to be exposed to practicing corporate law. The firm tour also allows students to meet partners, associates, and student recruiters prior to the recruitment process in second year. The Corporate Law and Investment Club also offers support seminars and guest speakers about important issues for students and corporate lawyers such as preparing for on-campus interviews and managing the work-life balance. These kinds of opportunities are a great way to hear first hand from those who have worked in the field and to see what day-to-day life is like for a corporate lawyer.

Criminal Law Club
queenscriminallaw@gmail.com (Simon Borys)(Paula Saliba)

Queen’s Law School has an excellent reputation in the field of criminal law and boasts some of Canada’s most renowned academics in the field. The Criminal Law Club exists to familiarize members with the theory and practice of criminal law and to raise awareness of relevant current issues.  This is primarily done thorough our club events which have included prison tours, court trips, debates, and career panels.  The club also meets several times a year and distributes a monthly newsletter to keep students up to date on club happenings and developments in criminal law.

Criminal law is a unique and dynamic area of practice.  It offers practitioners the opportunity for flexibility and autonomy in their career and allows them to affect people’s lives in a meaningful and fulfilling way.

Environmental Law Club
robert.woon.sek.law@queensu.ca (Robert Woon)

Queen's Environmental Law Association is committed to exploring the subject of environmental law and policy. We hope to stimulate interest and discussion of environmental issues in several ways, including holding bi-monthly meetings in which members of the club will discuss a particular environmental issue, hosting round table discussions where professors, industry professionals, and environmental lawyers discuss environmental issues, legislation, and the environmental industry, and holding a formal debate on an environmental topic such as Canada's climate change policy. We also organize tours to various firms, government ministries, and non-profits so that students can talk to practitioners and find out what it is like to work in environmental law. We hope to see you at some of our events!

Health Law and Policy Association
victoria.au@queensu.ca

The Health Law and Policy Association was founded in 2004 to raise awareness of health law and health policy issues. We have explored issues as varied as medical malpractice, organ donation, international HIV/AIDS policy, bioethics and the Chaoulli decision. Membership encompasses law school, medical school, and public policy students. In 2005-2006, the HLPA held an extremely successful fundraiser to purchase new health law books for the Lederman Law Library. In 2006-2007, the HLPA launched a new initiative with the Trillium Gift of Life Network, Ontario's Organ and Tissue Donation coordination agency. We work with Trillium to increase education and awareness of organ and tissue donation in the Queen's, Kingston, and surrounding communities. We host speakers series addressing salient health law and policy issues. Additionally, we organize annual Health Law Firm tours to Toronto and Ottawa in the second semester to provide exposure to firms with significant health law practices, as well as the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Human Rights Law Club
dana.carson@queensu.ca (Dana Carson)

The Queen's Human Right Law Association has a number of initiatives designed to promote human rights awareness and involve students directly in work relating to human rights issues. The Human Rights Law Association organizes an annual internship program which establishes and financially supports a summer student internship with a non-governmental organization involved in human rights protection. We are organizing our first Mock Tribunal, which will be a public and student-run event showcasing issues of corporate social responsibility, featuring a number of expert witnesses and tribunal members brought in to speak at the event. In addition, the Human Rights Law Association is engaging in research for a notable public interest clinic in Toronto, plans to host a number of speakers throughout the year, and aims to connect with volunteer opportunities in the Kingston community.

International Law Society
kevinfwentzel@gmail.com (Kevin Wentzel)

The Queen's International Law Society (ILS) is a broad organization that is open to all students who express a general interest in international law. The ILS encourages interest in international law through holding regular meetings that provide a forum for discussion for international legal topics. The organization acts as a conduit for promoting international legal education through inviting guest speakers and lobbying for the introduction of international law courses and professors. Finally, the ILS promotes a general awareness of international law through organizing an annual trip to New York City to visit the Canadian Mission to the UN and UN headquarters. Over 120 students attended the trip last year, and interest is destined to grow.

Labour and Employment Club
andrew.ebejer@queensu.ca (Andrew Ebejer)

The Queen's Law Labour and Employment Club sets out to bring together students in all years who share an interest in labour and employment law issues, careers, and possibilities. It serves as a forum for students to learn more about, and to make connections in, the labour and employment field. We hold two major annual events: a firm tour of both management and union-side firms in Toronto, and a mock arbitration and guest speakers' panel also featuring both union and management-side lawyers. This year we hope to implement an annual Shadow Program, where individual students will be paired with professionals in the field for a day of job shadowing.

All proceeds from the show are donated to the Kingston chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society. 9sc65@queensu.ca (Steven)

The Society of Asians in Law (SAIL) provides an opportunity for students to get together and discuss legal issues concerning the Asian-Canadian community and learn about Asian Law. We invite guest speakers with experience in Asian Law to share their experiences with law students. We also provide students with exposure to Asian Law through firm tours and speaker panels. SAIL raises awareness of Asian culture through various social events. We have a Lunar Calendar New Year's dinner, Asian themed potlucks and sponsors dinners at local Asian restaurants.

Sports and Entertainment Law
megan.rolland@queensu.ca (Megan Rolland)

The mission of the Queen's Sports and Entertainment Law Society is to introduce and expose the Queen's Law Community to this growing and interesting area of law. We link senior students who have experience from past studies, or who have worked in these areas of law, with new students who are developing interests and questions. We organize events with a view to explaining what the practice of sports and entertainment law entails and creating a greater understanding and interest in this niche area of law. This year, we hope to achieve to main events: hosting a sports law guest speaker at Queen's, and organizing a tour to one of more firms that have a concentration in entertainment law.
