LSS Core 2011-2012

The President of the LSS is responsible for overseeing all other members of the Assembly. S/he is to preside over the general meeting and must submit an annual written report to this body in February. All cheques must be co-signed by the President. In addition to LSS obligations the President is required to sit on several other committees such as being the student representative on the Appointments Committee, an ex officio Faculty Board member, the LSS representative for the SGPS and student Chairperson of the Nominations Committee. A meeting is also held every two weeks with the Dean and the Administrative Committee of the Law School.

The Vice President Academic is in charge of all academic related activities involving the LSS. Aside from sitting on the LSS Core, the LSS Assembly and numerous committees, the VP Academic also sits on the Faculty Board and regularly meets with the Faculty Administration.

Alexander Radin - Vice President Administrative

The Vice President Administrative is responsible for a variety of activities related to maintaining the L.S.S. office and coordinating communications both within the L.S.S. and with the student body. In addition, the VP Admin organizes teaching evaluations, coordinates the compilation of data and comments received, and makes it available to the student body.

Mark Cavdar - Vice President Finance

The Vice President Finance is responsible for managing the finances of the Law Students' Society, and ensuring that funding is available to support the activities of the various LSS clubs and committees. In addition to being a member of the LSS Core, the Vice President Finance is also the Chairperson of the Promotional Committee and the Internal Review Committee.

Sarah Willis - Vice President Activities

The Vice President Activities is responsible for organizing Clubs Day, the Winter Semi-Formal and inter-faculty social events, as well as coordinating law lounge bookings and year councils' and clubs' events. In addition to serving on the LSS Core and LSS Assembly, the Vice President Activities also co-chairs the Student Recruitment and Education Committee, which hosts welcome receptions for incoming Queen's Law students.

Logan Crowell - Senator

The role of the Student Senator is to represent the students of the Faculty of Law at the Queen’s University Senate. The Senate is the body that determines all matters of an academic character which affect the University as a whole. These responsibilities may include matters regarding examinations, honorary degrees, academic calendars, and non-academic discipline. The Senator can therefore be seen as a representative to the broader Queen’s community. He/she also sits on the Dean’s Administrative Committee, and is a voting member of the Law Faculty Board and the SGPS Council.

Allan McGavin - President

The role of President consists of acting as a liason between the students of the specific year and the faculty/administration. Additionally, the President is ultimately responsible for the actions of the Year Exec. The president acts as overseer, and helps to facilitate meetings and assist in the planning, setup, and operation of various Year Exec events. As well, the President is a voting member of the LSS Assembly, sits on the Ontario Law Students Association committee, and works with the other Presidents to make sure that things run smoothly in the law school. Finally, the President is available to deal with any concerns or problems that a student may have. Feel free to contact your president regarding any issues that may arise.

Arminé Willis-O'Connor- Vice-President

The role of the Vice-President is to assist the President in the operation of the Year Exec, and to step in and assist with any Year Exec event. Additionally, the VP focuses on Academic Issues within the school, and works to ensure that the students of the specific year are fully informed regarding academic information. The VP is also a voting member of the LSS Assembly and takes over in the event that the President is incapacitated.

The role of the Secretary/Treasurer is to take minutes at all Year Exec meetings, and to take care of all financial matters for the Year Exec. Additionally, the Secretary/Treasurer assists in the planning, setup, and carrying out of all Year Exec events.

Hayley Watts - Social Convenor

The Social Convenor is responsible for all social events that are organized by the Year Exec. This includes development of new ideas, the booking of venues, scheduling of events and people to staff the events and presiding over a social committee. The Social Convenor also works with the other Social Convenors to ensure that all social events are scheduled appropriately.

Cory Young / Perrin Valli - Faculty Board Representatives

The main job of the Faculty Board reps is to represent student interests at Faculty Board meetings. They report back to the Year Exec regarding the happenings of Faculty Board and take forward opinions of the student body to the Faculty Board. Additionally, they participate in Year Exec events. Finally, they are voting members of the LSS Assembly.

The Athletic Reps are responsible for two main areas. Firstly, they are responsible for the law clothing orders. This includes developing ideas for clothes, ordering and selling the clothes to all law students and ensuring completion of all clothes orders. Secondly, the Athletic Reps are responsible for maintaining and encouraging participation in both intramural and more informal athletic events.
