Jonathan Shanks graduated from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University in 2007.  He joined the Constitutional, Administrative and International Law Section of the federal Department of Justice as Counsel in 2008. In 2016-2017, Jonathan was seconded to the Privy Council Office (Machinery of Government Secretariat). Jonathan has a varied practice relating to the division of powers, democratic institutions, the royal prerogative and Crown law.
