Adaeze Udeze holds a Master of Laws degree in International Human Rights Law and Development from London, United Kingdom where she graduated with Distinction. She is a dual-qualified lawyer licensed to practice law in Nigeria and Ontario, Canada. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2013 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2023. Adaeze works with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada as a decision-maker. She has developed an interest in the intersection between Human Rights Law and Artificial Intelligence Law, particularly in automated decision-making by Immigration officers and tribunals. Her position at the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada formerly as a Case Management Officer, and presently as a Decision Maker, has made her aware of the various areas where AI can be utilized in refugee determination processes as well the potential problems which may arise when using artificial intelligence tools in decision-making. Adaeze intends to conduct in-depth research in this evolving area of Law and has been offered admission to pursue this research as a PhD law student at the prestigious Queen’s University.
