This six-year combined program capitalizes on the strength of the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree offered by Smith School of Business and the rich business law program offered by Queen’s Law.
The BCom/JD degree reduces completion time and tuition by one year for undergraduate students admitted to the BCom degree program at Smith. Students entering the third-year of the Smith BCom program are eligible to apply through an internal application process at Queen’s.
Admission Information
Application for admission to the BCom/JD joint program will be made directly to the Faculty of Law by November 1. Supporting documentation, letters of reference, LSAT scores and non-Queen’s transcripts should follow as close to the deadline as possible, when available.
Your completed application should consist of the following documents, and be submitted via email to Recruitment & Admissions Manager at jd@queensu.ca.
- Application Form (Save file to your computer before filling out to ensure information is saved)
- Personal Statement
- Must be authored and edited solely by the applicant. The personal statement should indicate the student’s reason for studying in the joint program and address the student’s aptitude, skills and suitability for the program. (6000 characters maximum)
- Résumé
- LSAT score report (if future test date, send score report when it becomes available)
- Letter(s) of reference (at least one academic reference) sent by the referee which should each include the Confidential Reference Form. (Save file to your computer before filling out to ensure information is saved)
- Non-Queen’s transcripts sent directly from originating institutions (including exchange, letter of permission or summer courses)
Assessment of applications will begin in January for applicants that have complete applications. We will also consider applications from those who have selected to write the January LSAT test, the scores for which are released in early February.
An interview in person or via Skype with the Faculty of Law Admissions Staff may form part of the final decision. Applicants will be notified of an intent to interview via email with at least two-weeks’ notice.
