My fascination with law’s role in ensuring checks and balances began in high school, particularly during my volunteer work with Aviyana Club following devastating cyclones in West Bengal. This experience revealed the limitations of administrative and human rights bodies, sparking my interest in law. At law school, I delved into constitutional, administrative, and human rights laws through organizing moot courts, interning at Rural Litigation Entitlement Kendra, and conducting research under Dr. Rajalaksmi Wagh and Dr. Jaykumar Bhongale.

My academic and professional journey has been shaped by a deeply rooted interest in the intersections of power, justice, labour and employment law. This interest has grown in tandem with the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) in Canada and the global market. Holding a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Political Studies and a Master of Industrial Relations (MIR) from Queen’s University, I have developed a nuanced understanding of Canadian labour and employment legal frameworks and the principles that underpin effective industrial relations (IR).

With over three years of experience as a practicing lawyer in Nepal, I have gained an understanding of the legal landscape in the country, particularly in Civil, Criminal, and corporate law. My hands-on experience has shown me that the practice of law is much more intricate and expansive than what is taught in law school. This realization has fueled my desire to further my academic career, deepen my expertise, and broaden my professional network.

In my freshman year, after studying various public basic courses and general courses in various colleges, I was finally attracted by the logic and rationality of law and chose to enter the Law School of Shanghai University. During the process of studying law, I met great teachers and classmates who helped me move forward, especially in the field of business law. After graduating from Shanghai University, I decided to go abroad to broaden my horizons and go for further study.

I am a lawyer from China, specializing in handling civil and commercial litigation cases. Throughout my legal career, I have identified many biases within the current legal system, and I have continuously reflected on these issues. I believe that solving certain social and equity issues ultimately requires changes in the law. As I age, I increasingly realize that for some of the causes I've always dreamed of pursuing, if I don't act soon, my opportunities to pursue them may diminish.

As a civil services aspirant, a student of law and now a lawyer, I believe there is no end to the depth and volume of the legal field. Law is alive and continuously growing, changing and taking on new forms. For a Lawyer, research and studying is never complete and it is always important to invest in expanding the reaches of your knowledge base. It means an opportunity to start the journey to dive deeper into a concept, an idea, a thought and examine its depth, width and extent.

Growing up in Benapole, Bangladesh, a city close to the border, I witnessed firsthand the complex realities of migration. This exposure ignited my interest in immigration and refugee law, leading me to complete my LLB. My passion for legal research was further fueled by my active participation in national and international moot court competitions, including representing Bangladesh as a researcher in the US rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
