Alexandra Manthorpe is a lawyer at Cunningham, Swan, Carty, Little & Bonham LLP in Kingston, Ontario. Her areas of practice include estate and trust planning, estate and trust administration, and business succession planning. Among other things, Alexandra helps her clients with Powers of Attorney for Personal Care and Property, drafting Wills (including Multiple Wills to reduce estate administration tax and Wills with “Henson Trusts” (fully discretionary trusts) for disabled beneficiaries), drafting Trust Deeds (including for family trusts, Alter Ego Trusts and Joint Spousal (or Joint Partner) Trusts), obtaining Certificates of Appointment (probate) for estates, and post-Certificate estate administration, providing advice to estate trustees, Attorneys for Property, Attorneys for Personal Care, and trustees in general, and providing assistance with succession planning for business owners. Prior to returning to Kingston in January 2021, Alexandra practiced in Oakville and Toronto.
Alexandra is a sought-after speaker, and has presented on a variety of estates-related topics for CPD events with the Ontario Bar Association and Law Society of Ontario.
Alexandra is a proud graduate of Queen’s Law, Class of 2010, and received a Bachelor of Arts, First Class Honours from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick in 2005. Alexandra is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Eastern Ontario, and is a past member-at-large of the Ontario Bar Association’s Elder Law Section. In addition, Alexandra is a director and member of the Al Purdy A-Frame Association, a not-for-profit corporation and charity, which owns and operates the poet Al Purdy’s home in Prince Edward County as a writer’s retreat.
