My name is Jinze Li. I was born in Shijiazhuang, a city in Northern China. I obtained my LL.B. from Shandong University. After graduating, I passed the Bar Examination and practiced law in China for approximately four years. Before coming to Queen’s University, I also studied Canadian law at Osgoode PD, York University. My supervisor is Professor Jacob Weinrib. Public law, especially administrative law, and statutory interpretation have been areas of particular interest to me since law school, as assessing the reasonableness and correctness of administrative decisions is fundamental to upholding the rule of law in judicial review. For my LL.M. research at Queen’s, I hope to explore recent developments in how Canadian courts interpret administrative statutes, particularly in the post-Vavilov era. My research will focus on standards of review and interpretation methods in the Canadian administrative context.
