My father was a first-generation scholar who was tremendously influenced by education. His life of constant research and study as a university professor influenced my love for learning and avid curiosity for figuring out things. I obtained my LL. B in 2012 and was called to the Nigeria Bar in 2013. I have been in active legal practice at a top-tier law firm in Nigeria, as a senior associate in the Banking and Finance, Capital markets, and Insolvency practice groups. Advising on various finance transactions led me to observe the interplay between business sustainability and finance. With the current global focus on sustainable finance, I see the potential of sustainable finance engineering economic development through private sector investment in social and physical infrastructure to achieve the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. As sustainable finance is still developing, I decided to pursue an LLM at Queens University to have an in-depth understanding of sustainable finance and the interdisciplinary interactions between financial regulation and sustainability. This is because I aspire to contribute to the growth of sustainable finance in Nigeria as a sustainability advocate and an in-house counsel in a development finance institution.
