Peter Johnson is the Executive Vice President, Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer for Shaw Communications Inc., and is responsible for Shaw’s Legal group, corporate governance, regulatory and government relations.

Mr. Johnson has over 15 years of experience with significant mergers and acquisitions including a $4 billion asset swap between Shaw and Rogers Communications, the acquisition of 360Networks’ fibre backbone, the development and partnership of the 42-story Shaw Tower project in Vancouver, the $2 billion acquisition of CanWest Global’s broadcasting and media assets, the US$1.2 billion acquisition of ViaWest, the $1.65 billion acquisition of WIND and sale of Shaw Media to Corus Entertainment for $2.65 billion.

Starting at Shaw in 1996 as Legal Counsel, Mr. Johnson assumed more senior roles at Shaw culminating with this recent promotion in March 2016 to include regulatory affairs and government relations. 

Mr. Johnson is Co-Chair of the Alberta Alumni Council for Queen’s Law School and board member and Treasurer of the Alberta Ballet Foundation.

In 2011, Mr. Johnson was the recipient of the Canadian General Counsel Deal Marker Award for his role in Shaw’s $2 billion acquisition of CanWest’s broadcasting business.

Mr. Johnson lives in Calgary with his wife Erin and their two daughters.
