Noisy Factors in Law

For this year’s Law'80 Lecture in Business Law, Queen’s Law is pleased to welcome Adriana Robertson, Donald N. Pritzker Professor of Business Law from the University of Chicago Law School. Professor Robertson is a celebrated expert in law and finance, whose research includes securities law, capital markets regulation, corporate finance, and business law. Her work has been featured in major media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, as well as the Harvard Business Law Review, Yale Journal on Regulation and more.

Professor Robertson’s latest co-authored work, Noisy Factors, focuses on “factor models”, which are commonly used to perform valuations and market assessments in judicial proceedings. However, the data that supports these factors undergoes periodic revisions, and there is the potential for retroactive changes to materially affect a broad range of estimates. The results may undermine the legitimacy of judicial decisions regarding securities fraud, corporate valuation, and estimation of damages.

This talk has wide appeal for law practitioners, CFAs, security and regulation specialists, MBA students and more! We hope you can join us in Kingston on March 25 for this thought-provoking talk.
