On a warm and sunny May 21, Queen’s Law marked Convocation with a joyful celebration of the Class of 2026. In historic Grant Hall, graduates from three programs crossed the stage as family, friends, faculty, and staff gathered to applaud their success.
Degrees were conferred on 204 JD students and nine LLM students, and 135 students earned a Certificate in Law.
Mary Jane Mossman, Law’70, a distinguished legal scholar, educator, and author, received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree and delivered the Convocation address.
“As Queen’s Law graduates 2026, you face both legal — and societal — challenges. And the world is waiting!” she said. “Courage my friends: It is not too late to build a better world with law and justice — substantive equality, concrete access to justice, and legal norms of inclusive humanity. And in pursuing these quests, you will infuse the law with an understanding of what it means to be fully human.” (with references to the words of Tommy Douglas and Justice Bertha Wilson)
Several graduates received top honours. Joseph Vukasovic, Dana Surtees, and Ryan Levy earned medals for the highest cumulative averages. Gabriel Mollot-Hill was awarded the Dean’s Key, recognizing collegiality, professionalism, service, and academic excellence. Dean’s Scholar Awards, for the top third-year averages, were presented to Dana Surtees (Gold), Erika Tworzyanski (Silver), and Joseph Vukasovic (Bronze).
The two Indigenous JD students who graduated were each gifted a blanket during the ceremony in honour of their accomplishments.
Following the ceremony, graduates and their guests gathered at Ban Righ Hall for a celebratory reception with Dean Colleen M. Flood, faculty, and staff.
As the Class of 2026 begins the next chapter, Queen’s Law looks forward to following their contributions to the profession and to communities across Canada and beyond.
