On May 23, Queen’s Law proudly celebrated the Class of 2025. In a packed Grant Hall, graduates from five academic programs crossed the stage as their families, friends, professors, and staff applauded their achievements.
Degrees were conferred on 205 JD students, three LLM students, and one PhD student. Additionally, 117 students earned an undergraduate Certificate in Law, and 220 completed the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law.
Marie Henein, one of Canada’s most prominent litigators, received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree and delivered the Convocation address.
“This profession is essential to our democracy,” she told the graduates. “You now have the extraordinary opportunity to add your voice, your talent, and your minds to the fray – to never again sit on the sidelines, and to take on the tough fight for all of us.
“I applaud your hard work and your tenacity, and I thank you for the dedication you’re making – for choosing a profession that protects all of us.”
Several graduates received top honours. Ryan Fraser, Jonah Muyal, and Nicholas Pasaluko earned medals for the highest cumulative averages. Dean’s Key awards, recognizing collegiality, professionalism, service, and academic excellence, went to Jayme Milligan and Uche Umolu. Dean’s Scholar Awards, for the top third-year averages, were presented to Noah Beiles (Gold), Ambreena Ladhani (Silver), and Jonah Muyal (Bronze).
A record nine Indigenous JD students graduated this year. Each was honoured with the gift of a blanket or a ceremonial feather fan during the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, graduates and their guests gathered at Ban Righ Hall for a celebratory reception with Dean Colleen M. Flood, faculty, and staff.
“Our Queen’s Law community extends around the world – a family of alumni, colleagues, and friends more than 7,000 strong,” said Dean Flood. “It is this community that will lift you up as you make a positive difference.
“Every day at Queen’s Law, I see the generosity of spirit that defines us. Take that into the world. I look forward to seeing the difference you make – and to welcoming you back in the future.”
Law Students’ Society President Hayley Crooks reflected on the strength of their shared journey: “With the help of our wonderful professors and staff, we were able to put ourselves out there and start forging our paths. Our class has left a mark at Queen’s Law, and I know you’ll all leave a mark on the legal profession. Congratulations – we graduated law school!”
Queen’s Law congratulates the Class of 2025 on their remarkable achievements. To our newest graduates: we look forward to staying in touch as you begin your legal careers and contribute to communities near and far.
