Queen’s Law launches an intensive program offering timely, strategic trade law insights for business and legal professionals.
In today’s volatile global trade environment, uncertainty isn’t just a challenge — it’s a constant. From shifting tariffs and sanctions to evolving supply chain rules and geopolitical tensions, international trade regulations are being rewritten in real time. For businesses and the professionals who advise them, staying ahead of these changes is now essential.
Trade Law Essentials: What Businesses Need to Know, a three-day professional intensive program running December 8–10, 2025, provides a timely opportunity to learn directly from leading Canadian and international trade law experts. Delivered virtually via Zoom, this program is designed for business leaders, legal professionals, and government and non-profit executives whose work intersects with cross-border trade and investment.
“The international trade ecosystem is undergoing seismic shifts,” says course developer Professor Nicolas Lamp. “With increasing scrutiny on supply chains, unpredictable tariff regimes, and mounting geopolitical pressures, businesses face unprecedented legal and regulatory risks. This intensive course aims to equip participants with the tools to mitigate those risks and identify strategic opportunities in a rapidly changing landscape.”
Over three immersive days, participants will explore:
- The current and likely future state of tariffs in Canada and the U.S.
- Contract strategies to reduce tariff risks
- Rules on classification, valuation, and origin of goods
- Accessing trade remedies and navigating dispute mechanisms
- Export restrictions and sanctions amid global conflicts
- Regulatory impacts on supply chain management and due diligence
- Canada’s “rules to tools” policy shift and what it means for business
- Anticipating trade policy changes in the U.S., China, and beyond
This program is eligible for more than 10 hours of Substantive Content for the Law Society of Ontario’s CPD requirements for lawyers.
The program brings together leading trade law experts from government, academia, and the private sector as instructors, including:
