Queen’s Law Journal students memorialize legendary faculty advisor

Before a gathering of students and faculty outside the Queen’s Law Journal (QLJ) office on April 21, a memorial plaque was unveiled to commemorate the work of Professor Bernie Adell. As long-time faculty advisor to QLJ and editor-in-chief of the Canadian Labour and Employment Law Journal, he influenced scores of student editors in producing two of Canada's leading scholarly legal publications.

Law students and lawyers team up to help refugee sponsors

Newly allied Queen’s Law students and local lawyers are positioning themselves to assist private refugee sponsors in sponsorship application paperwork. On April 16, students and lawyers participated in the Refugee Sponsorship Training Program, locally supported by Cunningham, Swan, Carty, Little & Bonham LLP and the Frontenac Law Association in cooperation with the University of Ottawa Refugee Hub.

Queen’s grad wins major mandatory minimums case at Supreme Court

On April 15, after hearing submissions in R v Lloyd, the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) struck down as unconstitutional the latest in a series of mandatory minimum sentences. Queen’s Law alumnus Eric Gottardi, Law’02, played an instrumental role, serving as pro bono counsel for the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), an intervenor in the case.
