Queen’s Law Welcome Package Pick-up (3:00pm – 4:00pm)
Location: Student Lounge
You'll enter the law school and proceed to pick-up your welcome package from Queen's Law staff as well as your Orientation t-shirt (if you registered). You’ll have an opportunity to purchase a locker for $20 (optional). Once you've picked up your package and got your Orientation t-shirt, you'll proceed outside to the Courtyard to meet your Orientation Group for the Kick-off BBQ.

Prepare to meet all of your fellow 1L, upper-year transfer, common law-civil law and exchange students!  Come to the courtyard behind Macdonald Hall to find your Orientation Leaders, meet your Orientation Team, and kick off Orientation with a BBQ and some games!

University mandated training session, focusing on teaching response techniques for bystanders of various problematic situations. 

Social Scavenger Hunt (11:00am-2:00pm)
Starting Location: Macdonald Hall Learning Commons
Get ready for our second-annual Social Scavenger Hunt! Explore Queen’s campus and downtown Kingston while completing team challenges across the city using mobile devices. From the Learning Commons to the lake, this event is sure to be a blast!

Smudge (9:15am – 9:45am - Optional) 
(The Smudge will start promptly at 9:15am, so please arrive on time)
Location: Back Courtyard between Macdonald Hall and Dunning Hall (site of the Kick-off BBQ)

Ann Deer our Indigenous Recruitment and Support Coordinator will be hosting a smudge ceremony. All students are welcome. Smudging is traditionally done as a way of purifying or cleansing the soul of negative thoughts of a person or place. There are four elements involved in a smudge:

  • The container, traditionally a shell representing water, is the first element.
  • The four sacred plants (cedar, sage, sweetgrass, tobacco), gifts from mother earth, represent the second element.
  • The fire produced from lighting the sacred plants represents the third element.
  • The smoke produced from the fire represents air, the fourth element.

Diversity & Inclusion (10:00am - 11:30am)

University mandated training session, emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusion within the law school.

As Law Students, you will be trained in how to perceive and understand the world through the lens of the law. To support and ensure students are equipped for the challenges and triumphs associated with that growth, Queen's students will learn: (1) the latest research related to the mental health and well-being of students and lawyers; (2) specific tools and techniques they can practice, alongside their academic development, to help cultivate a more fulfilling and healthy experience in law school and beyond.
